Meeting Minutes June 2017

PATIENT PARTICIPATION GROUP MEETING
Thursday 22nd June 2017

Attendees

Please see attached sheet for list of attendees.

Welcome and Housekeeping

  • The group was welcomed.
  • Informed there were no fire alarm tests planned for the day; if the alarm rang, we would need to leave by the back door.
  • Toilets were pointed out and everyone was provided with a drink.

Guest Speaker: Mrs Karen Wilson (Healthwatch Bolton)

  • Karen explained that Healthwatch Bolton is the local consumer champion for health and social care issues.
  • She described their powers to inspect care homes, speaking to residents and/or family members to assess satisfaction.
  • Clarified they do not have powers to close down homes.
  • Leaflets and an annual report were distributed to PPG members.

Dr Haslam Leaving the Practice

  • The group was informed that Dr Haslam was moving on to pastures new.
  • Members expressed sadness, wished her the best of luck, and asked about her replacement.
  • It was explained that Dr Arefa Badat, previously a salaried GP, would become a new partner.
  • This creates a vacancy for a new GP/salaried doctor.
  • The difficulty of recruiting doctors was discussed, and the possibility of using locums was mentioned.

Car Park Issues

  • A recurring issue: patients struggle to find parking due to commuters from the train station using the car park.
  • A member reported speaking with Edward Henshaw from Assura (building owners), who assured her that a Parking Eye system was being organised.
  • Linda Heywood (PM) was already aware of this.
  • However, the member also spoke to a council representative who said Assura had not applied for planning permission.
  • LH agreed to follow up and report back at the next meeting.

Meeting Close

  • The meeting closed at 2:20 pm.
